The Austrian princess, Marie Antoinette (1755-1793) married the future King Louis XIV of France at the tender age of fourteen to repair centuries of animosity between the two countries. Of all French sovereigns, the name Marie Antoinette stays with us as she embodies the pre-Revolutionary excesses of the French nobility. But Marie Antoinette lacked empathy and was unable to read the collective mood of the French people.
