Breizh Café to Open Soon in St Germain: A Foodie’s Dream Come True
The Left Bank is buzzing! Breizh Café – a must stop foodie paradise- will soon be opening at the Carrefour de l’Odéon in the Saint Germain district of Paris. Also, Breizh Epicerie/Grocery Store will be opening across the street at the corner of Rue Monsieur-le-Prince. “Breizh” is the Gallic name for Brittany, reflecting the origin of the Breton ingredients.
Just thinking about the Left Bank arrival of this famous and insanely popular crêperie makes my heart sing, for Breizh Café, one of my absolute favorite crêperies, is so much more than crêpes. The slogan here is “working the raw material.” Respect for the ingredients is at the heart of the cuisine. Start with their superb buckwheat galettes (savory buckwheat crêpes) which are paper thin and crispy around the edges. Made with organic quality ingredients and Bordier butter, this is a five-star tasting experience. Be sure to read the chalkboard for seasonal and unique specials. Paired with a dry cider (there are plenty of artisanal ciders on the menu), and you are in foodie heaven. The cider here is the real deal, tart and complex, and it is served the traditional way in bowls.
To top it off, the dessert crêpes are irresistible. My mouth waters as soon as I order the salted butter caramel crêpe, with a dollop of Chantilly cream.
Owned by Bertrand Larcher, a native Breton, this café will be the 5th outpost of the original restaurant in Cancale, Brittany.
