Bed Down at These 3 New Hotels in Cannes

With the Cannes film festival about to end, plan your next stay on the French Riviera with these 3 new hotels

For the past 76 years, the annual Cannes Film Festival has kept this French Riviera resort town buzzing with some of the most notable celebrations in cinematography. Even when the who’s who of the international cinema scene isn’t walking the red carpet, a stroll along the 2-km-long Boulevard de la Croisette proves a feast for the eyes.

Set on a hilltop above the boulevard’s sandy beaches, fashion boutiques, and historic hotels, discover Cannes old quarter Le Suquet, home to landmarks Forville Market, Musée des Explorations du Monde (formally the Castre museum), and the Tour du Masque de Fer (The Man in the Iron Mask Tower). Or opt to bask in the Côte d’Azur’s endless sunshine, beachside.

Wherever your desires take you, unpack your bags at one of these latest and greatest hotels in this beguiling French Riviera town just 30 kilometres from Nice.

The Carlton

Dating back to 1911, The Carlton Cannes has recently undergone a sleek rebirth at the helm of Interior Designer Tristian Auer. Host to the first Cannes Film Festival in 1946, this iconic Belle Époque address is now even grander and more lavish with looming marble columns, soaring ceilings, and a dreamy garden. Of the 332 expanded rooms and suites, each one unique in decor and design, 72 are sea-facing. Expansive views of the Mediterranean Sea are one of the hotel’s greatest assets. Indulge in the 5,400-square-foot penthouse with a terrace just as vast, overlooking the infinity pool. Dining options include a sun-drenched lunch at the Carlton Beach Club, the catch-of-the-day at Riviera brasserie overlooking the Croisette, and a taste of modern Turkish cuisine at Rüya. Stop by the elegant Tea Lounge before dipping into Le C Club Spa, the swimming pool, or the sea.

Mondrian
Set high on the Croisette overlooking the Mediterranean, discover the glamorous Mondrian Cannes. This former palace reimagined by Franco-Brazilian architecture firm Triptyque blends a verdant landscape with sophisticated modernity. From the plant-infused lobby where marine patterns blend in with wood panelling highlighting the artwork of Mathilde de l’Écotais, to the bar and restaurant spilling into the gardens, nature is omnipresent. With an emphasis on seafood, the menu at Mr. Nakamoto headed up by Chefs Hervé Busson and Jean-Baptiste Guillaume, offers refined Japanese fusion with sushi by Pheerasak Plangklang. Meanwhile, discover a taste of Italy beneath the olive and palm trees at Hyde Beach Cannes. Seek refuge from the sun in one of 75 spacious rooms with a view along 11 floors, some even capturing panoramic views of the Bay of Cannes.

Le Suquet
Named for the unspoiled hilltop village of Le Suquet where Hotel Le Suquet Cannes is discreetly positioned, this 4-star boutique hotel oozes with Provencal charm. Cozy up in one of 22 sun-soaked rooms dressed in wood and navy hues with views of the Notre-Dame d’Espérance bell tower, the sea, and Massif de l’Esterel mountains. While it’s only a short walk to the beach, this peaceful oasis also features a pool for afternoon swims or leisurely lounging. Dining at Le Patio is an intimate affair with ingredients gathered at the local market. Seasonal herbs and vegetables are foraged at the hotel’s kitchen garden. What’s the secret ingredient at this convivial address opened by a Cannes local? Warm Mediterranean hospitality.
