India Mahdavi Coffee Table

Iranian-born, Paris-based designer India Mahdavi pays tribute to American color-field painter Mark Rothko—whose Orange, Red, Yellow sold for a record-breaking $86.9 million at Christie’s in May—with a wood coffee table lacquered in Rothkoesque bands of red, black, white and pink. “I wanted to use the decorative arts to see my homage in three dimensions,” she says, describing the result as “brilliant and sensual, with colors that are singular and graphic at the same time”.
