Habits de Lumière: Champagne and Festivities in Epernay
Just one hour by train from Paris, Epernay is famously known as the Capital of Champagne. Major champagne houses line the world-famous Avenue de Champagne, beneath which more than 200 million bottles of champagne ages in a maze of chalk cellars. Epernay is wonderful to visit any time of year, but the holiday season is particularly fun with the annual event known as Habits de Lumière. What’s more, this year is the 20th anniversary of this festive celebration.
For three days (December 13-15, 2019), the entire town will be lit up with beautiful illuminations, including the façade of the Hotel de Ville, which will showcase a colorful “videomapping.” Strolling the Avenue de Champagne, radiant with lights and costumed revellers, promises to be a magical experience.
The lights and Christmas decorations alone would be worth a trip but the Habits de Lumière brings round-the-clock fun with artistic performances in the street, fireworks, culinary demos (champagne and gourmet food pairings, anyone?), a vintage car parade and much more. Did we mention the pop-up champagne bars?
What better way to usher in the holiday season than toasting champagne and taking in the festivities? Immerse yourself in the magic of Noel in an effervescent atmosphere. For more information visit habitsdelumiere.epernay.fr/en
