Event Description

Figaro here, Figaro there! Rossini’s beloved comic masterpiece comes to Opéra Bastille from September 12 to November 5, 2026, and it remains one of the most joyful nights out in Paris. Composed in just fourteen days and premiered in Rome in 1816, Il Barbiere di Siviglia is the definitive opera buffa: all vocal fireworks, youthful energy, and dazzling orchestration.

The story follows the resourceful barber Figaro as he helps Count Almaviva win the heart of the clever Rosina, outwitting her scheming guardian along the way. Director Damiano Michieletto relocates the action to a vibrant modern-day Seville inspired by the films of Almodóvar, with a staging as mischievous as the music itself.

Sung in Italian with French and English surtitles, the production runs 3 hours 15 minutes with one intermission. Mezzo-sopranos Lea Desandre and Marina Viotti share the role of Rosina across the run.
