Natural Approach to Learning French

Natural Approach to Learning French

Is learning or improving your French language skills one of your New Year’s resolutions? Are you looking to start from scratch with “Bonjour” and “Ça va?” or are you eager to develop your fluency so you can have in-depth conversations about your favourite subject —from food to philosophy?

Carl Adkins and Hebret Maasho founded XPF to enable people to learn the language naturally and practice speaking without feeling embarrassed. Mistakes are how you learn and progress! Carl and Hebret create a personalised programme to help every student succeed and pursue their own interests.

Hebret and Carl use the “natural approach” with Total Physical Response (TPR) as developed by Professors Krashen and Asher to help learners quickly develop associations between sounds, ideas, and images. It’s how we learn our mother language, so it makes sense to use it when learning other languages:

  1. Hear
  2. Experience
  3. Speak
  4. Write

This innovative approach works with your brain rather than against it. Another part of XPF’s scientific method is Sheltered Subject Matter Teaching (SSMT), focusing on your interests and stimulating activities to help natural language acquisition.

XPF offers various immersion plans from one-week immersions (solo or with guests) to 12-month Club XPF and a 3-month Fast Track French course, which provide targeted coaching before and after week-long immersions to help you maintain the habit of learning French.
