Le Cot France

Le Cot France

Le Cot, also known (on GPS) as Le Coq, was part of a maison de Cognac, or a vineyard farm compound, before tractors were invented. Essentially, it was used to house the folks who harvested the grapes (les vendangeurs, in French). Today, there are three habitations within the walls of Le Cot, as well as several buildings we hope to transform into support for our experiential learning center.

The three houses are Le Loft, La Charentaise, and Les Vendangeuses.

Le Loft is Christine and Dan Cooney’s private residence. A former barn, it retains much of the rustic character of the original building, while having modern touches throughout.

La Charentaise is the first house you will see when you enter the property. It has a large kitchen, a spacious living/dining room, three bedrooms, and one-and-a-half baths. The living area has a clear view of the vineyard across the road.

Les Vendangeuses (named for the female grape harvesters who stayed here) also has a large kitchen and living room. It has two bedrooms and one-and-a-half baths and is conveniently located next to the in-ground pool.

Le Pub We didn’t know what to call this building when we first arrived, but everyone agreed it had the feeling of a small rustic Irish Pub when you first walked in.  lt needed to be completely restored and we finally started working on it in 2025. It has a living room, with small kitchenette/breakfast space combined, a WC downstairs, and two bedrooms plus shower upstairs. It is conveniently located next to the in-ground pool.

The four houses surround a central courtyard with pleasant gravel walkways and a summer kitchen. When the weather permits, this is where we cook and eat. One of the greatest pleasures in life is sharing a delicious meal with good friends, and it’s one of our favorite pastimes at Le Cot.
