Musée Camille Claudel
The Musée Camille Claudel is a sculpture museum dedicated to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Located in the town of Nogent-sur-Seine, it exhibits the work of French sculptor Camille Claudel, among others.

Opened in 2017, the museum is the first institution dedicated to the work of Camille Claudel. It houses the largest collection of her pieces, displaying around half of her surviving sculptures, alongside works by other artists of her time.

The museum presents:
- Around 40 sculptures by Camille Claudel, covering all stages of her career
- A of total 200 works including pieces by contemporaries such as Auguste Rodin, Alfred Boucher, and Paul Dubois
- A broader exploration of French sculpture from the late 19th to early 20th century”
The displays are organised thematically, covering topics like sculpture techniques, artistic influences, movement, and Claudel’s relationship to other artists, especially Rodin.

The museum combines historic and modern architecture:
- Part of it includes the house where Claudel lived as a teenager
- New contemporary galleries were added, designed to blend with the town’s traditional buildings
- The structure, often described as a “lighthouse,” uses brick to echo the clay used in sculpture
Significance
The museum not only celebrates Claudel’s artistic achievements but also places her within her historical context, showing how she both belonged to and stood apart from her contemporaries. It plays an important role in restoring recognition to an artist long overshadowed by Rodin.

The Musée Camille Claudel is a specialised sculpture museum that offers:
- The most comprehensive view of Claudel’s work
- Insight into the artistic world of her time
- A blend of biography, art history, and sculpture museum.
