Night has fallen and I’m at the very top of Les Sept Laux ski resort, 2,400 metres above sea level, with the lights of Grenoble spread out below me. The temperature is five degrees below zero, dropping fast, but I’m warm and cosy inside a snowcat – one of the vehicles used to groom the resort pistes.
Behind the controls, and concentrating hard as we negotiate a particularly narrow and steep downhill track, is Guy Reymond Laruina, a seasoned professional at piste-bashing.
