The four-star Hotel California was built in 1925 and is situated a few minutes walk from the luxury boutiques of the Champs-Élysées on the rue de Berri. The metro station George V on Line 1 is just five minutes away and if you keep strolling five minutes, you’ll arrive at the Charles de Gaulle-Etoile RER station at the foot of the Arc de Triomphe.

The hotel offers 173 rooms and suites and also provides rooms for disabled guests. The rooms are decorated in either a classic Louis XVI style or a contemporary manner with soft furnishings. Every room offers complimentary low-speed Wifi connection. Guests can enjoy all the usual modern amenities including satellite TV, mini bar, safety box, hair dryer and there is access to a fitness room should you wish to exercise during your stay.

The corridors of the hotel are adorned with lovely works of art (many are for sale), and the lobby offers a beautiful large space in which to relax. There’s a lounge bar offering a good selection of drinks, snacks and cocktails and in the heart of the hotel there’s a beautiful open sky patio which bathes the downstairs in sunlight.

I checked into a Superior room and I found that the bed was delightfully comfortable and that the room was nice and quiet. (Noise can sometimes be a problem in urban hotels.) The staff at the front desk are very attentive and smiley and add a very nice touch to your stay.

Breakfast in the morning is a full American buffet at ‘Le Cadre d’Or’ restaurant– a fabulous way to fuel up for the busy days ahead shopping or sightseeing!

For those on business, the hotel has a PC corner and a number of conference rooms can be hired.

If you’re visiting for a weekend and like to shop then there are few hotels in Paris with as good a location at the California.
