Fun on Two Wheels in Occitanie: Raising Cancer Awareness in France

Cancer Support France is once again organising a Cycle for Life across the beautiful countryside of the Occitanie region. The event will take place over four days from the 22nd to the 25th of June, covering 200km of the Canal du Midi, from its starting point in Carcassonne to the final destination in Sète.

Set up in 2002, Cancer Support France provides support for English speakers in France who have been affected by cancer, either directly themselves or through a friend or relative. With a vast pool of knowledge and resources at their disposal, CSF is able to help people with cancer navigate the French healthcare system. They also offer emotional help to people who might feel isolated living with cancer in a different country through fantastic organised events like this one.

This year’s Cycle for Life is dedicated to the founder of CSF, Linda Shepherd, who worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the charity, and who sadly died of cancer this year in March.

The Cycle for Life event is open to riders of all ability, where everyone can take their own pace and choose to ride as many or few of the stages as they like. The cycle route is all low level, following the flat path of the Canal du Midi.

Vie and Velo’ cycle tour company can offer help with bike hire, bike transport or booking accommodation. Denise from ‘Vie et Velo’ says, “We are very excited to be supporting ‘Cycle for Life’ this year as it not only benefits a great cause, but highlights some of the fabulous cycling to be had in the Languedoc. We expect it will be a great event for cycling enthusiasts of all levels”.

So if you fancy a cycling holiday this summer in the beautiful Languedoc region, why not join the Cycle for Life event where you can meet fellow cyclists and English speakers supporting a great cause? The event is free to take part in, but if you wish to raise money through sponsors you can make a donation on www.alvarum.com.
