Serge Gainsbourg

Fifteen years after the death of lounge singer/dandy Serge Gainsbourg, some of the biggest names in music are paying tribute to the prince of cool. Michael Stipe, Cat Power, Franz Ferdinand and others reinterpret his most famous songs on an album called Monsieur Gainsbourg Revisited.  His fashion style is also inspiring a new generation of young men: The Repetto dance shoes he constantly wore (he went through 30 pairs a year), have been adopted by the stylish set. And Gainsbourg’s little townhouse at 5 bis rue de Verneuil in the 7th arrondissement has become a shrine, its façade covered with love poems, paintings, stencils and graffiti. Métro: Rue-du-Bac
