Picpoul de Pinet is synonymous with the Languedoc wine region in the south of France and has become a firm favourite for summer drinking with its distinctive fresh, zesty style and ahint of an almost salty character.  It is made from Picquepoul Blanc grapes that are grown in vineyards overlooking the sweep of the Mediterranean from Montpellier round to Beziers and beside the saltwater Etang de Thau, France’s second largest lake.  Picpoul de Pinet gets its unique personality due to the cooling marine breezes that counterbalance the hot, dry Mediterranean climate, enabling the grapes to not only retain their freshness but also to acquire their appealing saline hint.

The Etang de Thau is a protected nature reserve full of shellfish, and oysters are also cultivated in large quantities, which make a delicious match with a chilled glass of Picpoul de Pinet from Ormarine, the largest producer of this crisp, refreshing white wine.
