Classified as an Historic Monument, the 16th-century Château de Monbazillac is emblematic of the Dordogne region. Just 10 minutes from Bergerac and one hour 40 minutes from Bordeaux, it is in the heart of the Périgord Pourpre wine-growing region, where visitors will find no shortage of cultural, historical and gastronomic delights.

2. New visitor route 

Guests can learn about the creation of Monbazillac wines, from vine to wine, via the visitor route which has undergone a complete makeover. Here you will discover the secrets and specificities of the golden nectar of Monbazillac, and enjoy a real immersion in the heart of the largest sweet wine vineyard in the world. Monbazillac offers videos, audio, light shows, puzzles and animations, guaranteeing an unforgettable experience.

3. Three-tiered approach 

Discover the new three-step tour that combines history, culture and the art of tasting. You will start with a visit to the museum, which is dedicated to Monbazillac wines, then you will discover the château where you will explore its unique architecture and, last but not least, it’s time for a tasting !

4. Tastings to suit everyone 

With Monbazillac’s different tastings, you’re sure to find the one that suits you. For novices, visits end with wine tasting overlooking the castle. Meanwhile, novices and experts alike will appreciate the guided tasting of three wines by a professional in the Aroma Pavilion.

5. Contemporary art exhibitions 

The castle organises two contemporary art exhibitions each year in collaboration with the cultural association ‘Les Rives de l’Art’. For more than 15 years, many renowned artists have exhibited their works at the castle. The roster of paintings, sculptures and performance videos make this age-old monument vibrate with modernity.

6. Events and entertainment throughout the year 

Events and entertainment punctuate the life of the château. Open-air concerts, theatre evenings, treasure hunts, cooking workshops for children and adults… The estate delights in helping visitors of all ages create lifelong memories to treasure.

7. A gourmet gift shop  

The estate’s new shop offers a selection of wines and local products, perfect for taking home as gifts or to enjoy for yourself. Not sure which wines to choose or what the best food and wine pairings might be? A team of friendly sales consultants is on hand to answer all your questions.

9. Meet the winegrowers 

From July 15 to August 31, it is possible to meet cooperative winegrowers who will explain their job and discuss current issues around biodiversity and the environment. It’s a real insider’s view of the world of winemaking.

10. Dine in the restaurant 

Round off your trip with a visit to the château’s restaurant, where you can enjoy a meal and soak up the fantastic views of the valley. It is open every lunchtime from June to October and offers local cuisine accompanied by wines produced by the Monbazillac cellar.
