Photo Essay: Karl Lagerfeld at the MET in New York

An exhibition at the MET in New York highlights the work of fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, whose influence on French fashion is undeniable. Take a look at the exhibition through the stunning photography of Fern Nesson.

A controversial but brilliant fashion designer, Karl Lagerfeld began his career in the 1950s at Balmain in Paris. After successes at Patou, Chloe, Fendi and Valentino, he spent the rest of his life as creative director at Chanel. Lagerfeld designed beathtaking clothes that not only kept up with changing trends in fashion but led them forward in each generation.

Whatever one may think of his often offensive public statements, his work was extraordinary. (For a juicy recitation of Lagerfeld’s outrageous opinions and sometimes over-the-top behavior, read this New York Times piece)

The exhibition is running at the MET until July 16th 2023

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City chose artistry over political correctness and opened its blockbuster Lagerfeld exhibit, “Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” I couldn’t resist checking it out (nor apparently could many other visitors; the exhibit was packed!)Lagerfeld certainly knew how to create beauty. Room after room of exquisite dresses made for a lovely afternoon at the museum. Take a look:
