French Film Review: Un Métier Sérieux

Having failed to secure a scholarship, young PhD student Benjamin Barrois is in need of money. With no training and no relevant experience, he bravely takes on a job as a substitute maths teacher in a middle school. Needless to say, it’s a challenging experience but he is not alone. His allies in the staff room, including French teacher Pierre Etcheverel, who becomes his mentor, have their problems too, and soon Benjamin finds he is part of a new group of friends who support each other through thick and thin, whatever challenges their profession throws at them next. This thoughtful comedy drama is definitely worth a watch.
