Fashion Meets Drama at SCAD FASH Lacoste Museum

The latest exhibition of SCAD FASH in Lacoste pairs iconic designer Christian Lacroix with the world-renowned Comédie-Française theatre.

In the heart of picture-perfect Provence, a new fashion exhibition has taken centre stage at the SCAD FASH Lacoste Museum. The exhibition, “Christian Lacroix Habille Peer Gynt pour la Comédie-Française” presents a unique fusion of fashion and drama, celebrating the masterpieces of Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen and the extraordinary talent of French fashion designer Christian Lacroix. Curated by fashion historian and curator Olivier Saillard and organized by Rafael Gomes, creative director of SCAD FASH museums, the exhibition bears witness to how the worlds of haute couture and theatrical brilliance collide.

The Comédie-Française, renowned as one of the longest-standing theatrical institutions in the world, has collaborated with Lacroix to bring to life the characters from Ibsen’s timeless play, “Peer Gynt.” The exhibit showcases an exquisite collection of around 40 costumes, each carefully crafted to portray the complexities and nuances of the play’s protagonists.

“This summer, students and visitors to SCAD FASH Lacoste will fall in love with Christian Lacroix Habille Peer Gynt pour la Comédie-Française, an exhibition of the wondrous costume designs of couturier Christian Lacroix,” Paula Wallace, President of SCAD, explains. “In this exquisite show, Lacroix weaves the history of continental drama with the future of fashion in exquisite costumes that transport the viewer into Ibsen’s timeless tale. This never-before-seen exhibition demonstrates how SCAD FASH Lacoste embraces the exuberant multi-plicity of contemporary design, merging the disciplines of couture and costume, fashion and fantasy.”

As visitors wander through the museum’s galleries, they find themselves immersed in a world of fantasy, mystique, and high fashion. Lacroix’s attention to detail is evident in every piece, as he meticulously captures his own passion for folklore and theatre.

The exhibition also inaugurates the museum’s new space, once the Galerie Centre owned by designer Pierre Cardin, a longtime Lacoste resident and cultural ambassador for the region.

Beyond the captivating costumes and mesmerizing displays, the “Christian Lacroix Habille Peer Gynt pour la Comédie-Française” exhibition represents a cultural exchange between different forms of artistic expression. So, whether you are a fashion enthusiast, a theatre lover, or simply seeking a unique and inspiring experience, make sure to add this enchanting exhibition to your travel itinerary.
