Dr. Terri Francis is Associate Professor of Cinematic Arts at the University of Miami and a leading scholar of Black film history and aesthetics. With over twenty years of experience in film exhibition and curation, Dr. Francis is the author of “Josephine Baker’s Cinematic Prism” (Indiana University Press, 2021), a definitive study of Baker’s film career and cultural impact. Her work explores global Black film history, performance, and the politics of representation.
Dr. Francis has curated influential film series, published research in major journals, and provided commentary for National Public Radio. As former Director of the Black Film Center/Archive at Indiana University, she spearheaded acquisitions and programs that expanded the archive’s global reach. Her expertise and passion for cinema make her a sought-after speaker and a guiding voice in re-examining film history’s most iconic figure.
