Kiraz

 

Since the late 1950s, artist and cartoonist Kiraz has delighted readers with his lighthearted look at the fancies and foibles of elegant young Parisiennes, and of the city itself, first for the magazine Jours de France and later for Paris Match, Elle, Gala and, in slightly naughtier versions, for Playboy. Slender, spirited and self-assured, his fashion-conscious heroines have also graced dozens of advertising posters and commercials, notably for Perrier and scanty Scandale lingerie. Now Les Parisiennes de Kiraz are starring in their first museum exhibit of 230 drawings, paintings, cartoons and sketches by the 84-year-old Egyptian-born Armenian who arrived in Paris more than 60 years ago. “My inspiration is the street, and it’s inexhaustible,” he says. “Two young women gossiping on the terrace of a café, c’est magnifique!
