Swan Lake & Romeo and Juliet

Swan Lake & Romeo and Juliet

For a handful of dates only, the Saint Petersburg Ballet Theatre will grace the stage of the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, one of Paris’s most stunning auditoriums, presenting two iconic works: Swan Lake and Romeo and Juliet. Opened in 1913, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées is one of the rare major examples of the Art Deco architectural style in the French capital. Despite its name, the theatre is actually located on the Avenue Montaigne, a luxury shopping street just around the corner from the bright lights of “the most beautiful avenue in the world”.

These three-act ballets both feature award-winning danseuse étoile Irina Kolesnikova. Set to the beautiful music of Peter Tchaikovsky, Swan Lake introduces us to Odette, the Swan Queen who is trapped by the curse of an evil sorcerer and requires the love of a man to break it. Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is, of course, another great love story and concerns the tragic tale of doomed, star-crossed lovers in the fair Italian city of Verona.

Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, 15 Avenue Montaigne, 75008. Swan Lake: January 29-30, 8 p.m. Romeo and Juliet: January 31-February 1, 8 p.m. and February 2, matinee 4 p.m.  Tel: +33 1 49 52 50 00. Tickets €37-€89
