THE BORDEAUX REGION – HOME TO CULTURE, HISTORY AND WINE.

Undisputed capital of the wine world, Bordeaux sits astride the majestic Garonne river, as it makes its way from the Pyrenées mountains to the Gironde estuary on the Atlantic coast. Known the world over for producing top-quality wines, the Bordeaux region is a treasure trove of historic and cultural sites, guaranteed to enrapture even the most demanding of travellers.

The recently refurbished city centre of Bordeaux itself is a masterpiece of juxtaposition between 18th-century architectural splendour and 21st-century design and innovation. It’s a city filled with restaurants, wine bars and specialist wine shops, and the ultra-modern Cité du Vin is only a short tram ride from the centre and celebrates its fifth anniversary this year.

Near the Hotel Renaissance are two extraordinary cultural attractions which are a must for any visitor to the city. The superbly conceived wine centre, the Cité du Vin beside the river, is the ultimate in wine museums of the world, celebrating wines and wine-making on a global scale. It showcases vineyards from around the world through a permanent exhibition, temporary exhibitions, wine culture workshops and numerous events, with many interactive elements and state-of-the-art technology.

The other unmissable visit near the hotel is the new Bassins de Lumières, a venue devoted to immersive digital exhibitions. Situated in an old wartime submarine base, this is a mind-blowing artistic experience, combining projected images by Old Masters, music and the reflective water of the enormous basins. An art exhibition like you’ve never experienced before.
