Newly Minted: A New Life for La Monnaie de Paris

After a six-year makeover, the Monnaie de Paris has reopened its doors as a culture hub complete with its own Michelin-starred restaurant courtesy of Guy Savoy, and cutting-edge art space. Founded in 864, La Monnaie is the world’s oldest continuously running mint, where more than 150 craftsmen work daily.

Now re-imagined as a major creative, dining, shopping and leisure centre, it boasts over 1,000m2 of gardens and outdoor space, a museum, contemporary art gallery, three-star restaurant and gastronomic café – also by Guy Savoy – and high-end retail units. The 11 Conti museum is home to an impressive collection of ancient treasure chests, and of course coins – including one specimen dating back more than 2,000 years – as well as the platinum metre measure that remains the international reference of the metric system.
