French Film Reviews: Larguées, Starring Miou-Miou and Camille Cottin

When their mother Françoise is dumped by their father for a younger woman, party girl Rose and desperate housewife Alice whisk her off to La Réunion to pull her out of her funk. Ever the loose cannon, Rose decides to speed up her listless maman’s recovery by bribing the resort’s resident gigolo to flirt with her.

When the dalliance turns into a full-blown fling, Rose goes to barmy lengths to keep her infatuated mother from uncovering the deception. As if this wasn’t quite enough, the chronically unappreciated Alice chooses to fall to pieces mid-holiday, while a chance encounter with a widower (the resort is rife with lost souls and neurotics) forces Rose to reassess her self-sabotaging lifestyle and inability to make lasting connections. Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown on steroids!
