Lolita Lempicka, Stella Cadente, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Paul Smith, Thierry Mugler, Martin Margiela, Viktor & Rolf, Lanvin, Cacharel, Xuly Bet — for the last five years a volunteer squadron of more than 60 fashion-world stars has joined in the fight against AIDS by designing lampshades and dressing-up light bulbs in some pretty fanciful attire. The bulbs and shades are made by HIV-positive and AIDS-diagnosed women from the Wola Nani association in Cape Town, South Africa, who participate in the profits from their sales. The delightful shades and irresistible bulbs are reasonably priced and perfect for holiday gift-giving, and a special edition of seven designs adapted for energy-saving bulbs was launched last month to celebrate the light-bulb project’s 5th anniversary.
