Christmas and New Year’s Classical Concerts in Paris

For a truly special experience this festive season, the classical Christmas and New Year’s concerts at La Sainte-Chapelle ought to hit the spot. A masterpiece of Gothic architecture nestled on the Ile de la Cité, this medieval royal chapel was commissioned by King Louis IX and built in the early-to-mid 13th century. Known for its delicate wood and stone features, and retaining one of the most extensive original collections of 13th century stained glass, the venue is a magical place to enjoy an inspiring evening of chamber music.

This year’s Christmas programme gathers some of the most popular works from the classical repertoire by Vivaldi (The Four Seasons), Vitali (Chaconne) and Pachelbel (Canon), featuring solos from violinist David Braccini. The New Year’s concert will usher in 2014 with a performance of crowd favourites by Strauss (Waltzes and Polkas, Radetsky March, Feuerfest) and Mozart (Eine Kleine Nachtmusik), with violin solos from Paul Rouger.

Christmas Concert: December 1, 7-8, 14-15, 20-24 and 26, 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. New Year’s Concert: December 27- 31, 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Sainte-Chapelle. Tel: +33 1 53 40 60 80. Tickets €29-€44.
