French Restaurant Review: Erin, Larmor-Plage

Fresh, uncomplicated and flavourful Breton seafood and fish dishes are to be found in this hotel-restaurant in Larmor-Plage.

In the Morbihan, Larmor-Plage is one of the most beautiful beaches in Brittany and a favourite holiday destination of the Bretons themselves. The Hôtel Les Mouettes is a perfect stopping place here, too, since it has a Modernist Big Sur ryokan style, gorgeous views over the sea, and now a wonderful new seafood bistro serving the local catch of the day courtesy of chef Nicolas Le Tirrand.

A perfect seaside supper began with local oysters and mullet carpaccio with watercress and glasswort followed by barbecued yellow pollack with a vin jaune sauce, and hake in green sauce with baby clams, two superb dishes. This is exactly the kind of uncomplicated but quietly sophisticated and impeccably fresh cooking one dreams of finding at the seaside in France.
