It’s Never Too Late to Learn French: Immersion Programme for Seniors

Have you had a passion for French your whole life but never enjoyed exams? Keep Learning French (KLF) offers a specially-designed course for over 50s that doesn’t rely on deadlines or assessments, but focuses on discovery, immersion and connection.

The one or two-week senior programme is offered in either Bordeaux or Annecy, two of the safest cities in France, where participants will receive 24 lessons per week, each lasting 45 minutes at a pace designed to match their lifestyles. These courses are open to any proficiency level, from beginner (A1) to near-fluency (C1), and offer guided cultural activities and fine dining experiences.

Home Stays, Apartments or Hotels

KLF offers three accommodation options for seniors hoping to immerse themselves in French culture outside of the classroom:

Staying with a host family offers participants the most immersion in everyday life by sharing meals and practising your French in a warm and supportive household. While this choice brings rich cultural interactions, guests would have to adapt to their host family’s schedule and house rules and slightly less privacy.

If personal space and independence is what you are looking for, participants can rent an apartment and ‘live like a local.’ It’s particularly suited to seniors who like the flexibility to cook their own meals and set their own schedule. Alternatively, staying in a hotel lets you return to a private room each day and enjoy services like daily cleaning and breakfast. With both of these options, remember to be proactive in joining group activities outside your lessons to avoid feeling isolated.

Classrooms in Annecy and Bordeaux

Many people think that large cities are the only places to learn a country’s language, but venturing off the beaten path often offers a deeper understanding of both its language and culture. While Paris is undeniably glamourous, Annecy and Bordeaux reveal a different side of France that is rich in heritage, beauty and authenticity.

Known as the ‘Venice of the Alps’, Annecy is a lakeside town that offers the perfect setting to learn French while soaking up some of France’s most breathtaking landscapes. Home to inspiring views of Alpine mountains, lakes and canals, learning French with KLF here comes with visits to mountain villages, swims in blue lakes, trying of Alpine gastronomy and embracing the authentic way of life in the  Savoie Département. With its safe, welcoming atmosphere and unbeatable natural beauty, Annecy makes learning French both an enjoyable and unforgettable experience.

Famous for its elegant architecture, world-class wines and vibrant cultural life, Bordeaux is a listed city that blends traditional French culture with modern living. Often called ‘Little Paris’, it’s the perfect city for participants seeking a cosmopolitan atmosphere in one of France’s most historically rich regions. Beyond KLF’s classrooms, Bordeaux offers local market delicacies, nearby world-renowned vineyards and a UNESCO-listed city centre to keep all their language-learners entertained and in awe.
