HOTELS
For those seeking contemporary chic, this newly-renovated four-star hotel has it in spades. Handily positioned in the same street as the biodynamic vineyard of Maison M. Chapoutier, there is an outdoor pool and the smart Bistro Marius where they serve local cuisine with a modern twist.
Located in the idyllic hilltop village of Cliousclat, this charming three-star hotel in a lovely old stone building enjoys stunning views over tiled rooftops, the valley and the mountains. The restaurant here, specialising in local, seasonal food, is also considered one of the best in the Drôme. Plus, you can dine in a beautiful ‘secret’ garden while enjoying the panoramic views.
Undoubtedly one of the finest in the département, this four-star hotel is an absolute gem. Located in a historic manor house, at the base of the famous Château de Grignan, the rooms are gorgeous, the service is impeccable and then there’s the utterly divine natural outdoor pool. When it comes to dining, it is also home to a Michelin-starred gastronomic restaurant (see below) as well as the rather brilliant Bistro La Ferme Chapouton.
Offering a getaway into the heart of unspoiled nature, with panoramic views over the Baronnies Provençales, the unusual accommodation here is inspired by Saharan lodges, teepees and Django huts. There is an outdoor pool as well as an indoor spa with its own pool.
Château les Oliviers de Salettes
If it’s the château experience you crave, this charming hotel is located in a lovely old building surrounded by mountains, lavender fields and olive groves. Guests are served in the impressive dining room or on the panoramic terrace, and there is also a fabulous outdoor pool and indoor wellbeing centre.
For something a little different, how about staying on your own private island? Only accessible by pedalo, this idyllic wooden hut and terrace is found in the middle of a lake near Châtillon-en-Diois. Designed to accommodate just two people, what could be more romantic?
RESTAURANTS
At this Michelin-starred restaurant in Grignan, you can enjoy a real culinary adventure. Chef Julien Allano devises a unique gastronomic experience of his own creation according to your food preferences, dietary requirements and which products are in season. In our case, he cooked up the most exquisite and elegant vegan feast imaginable. Not to be missed!
Without doubt the most famous restaurant in the region, Maison Pic, in Valence, is the place to go if you really want to push the boat out. At the helm is internationally-renowned chef Anne-Sophie Pic, who has three Michelin stars to her name. She offers refined dining at its very best – with a price tag to match.
La Péniche by Edward Cristaudo
Located up in the north of the Drôme, in Tain-L’Hermitage, this relatively new restaurant is situated on a barge, on the quay just behind the Valrhona Cité du Chocolat. Run by chef Edward Cristaudo, who earned a Michelin star at his previous restaurant, this one is, by all accounts, a worthy successor.
L’Absinthe
In La Garde-Adhémar, officially designated one of the most beautiful villages in France, the bistro/restaurant L’Absinthe is in the central square of the village. It has a lovely terrace, under the shade of acacias, where traditional, local cuisine is served.
Found in the picturesque town of Crest, Le Kléber is a one-star Michelin restaurant headed up by chef Sébastien Bonnet. Using the best products of each season, sourced from local producers, you can be assured of a gastronomic feast.
In the heart of Mirmande, La Capitelle is a charming hotel and restaurant
in the former home of artist André Lhote. Tuck into a gourmet meal, while soaking up the stunning views over the Monts d’Ardèche and the Rhône Valley.
