Balenciaga

September 2006

First there was the show at the Fondation Mona Bismarck, then a big Thames & Hudson book and now this huge show at the Musée de la Mode et du Textile. Although the designer has been dead since 1972, Cristóbal Balenciaga is the fashion name of the moment. Now owned by the Gucci Group, the house had become Sleeping Beauty until 35-year-old Nicolas Ghesquière, who apprenticed with Jean-Paul Gaultier, took over as head designer. Fashionistas around the world are celebrating Ghesquière as the new Messiah.
