Bloomin’ Exceptional: the 13th International Floralies Held in Vendée

Organised every five years, the International Floralies event, celebrating flora and plants in all their glory, will be held in Vendée, in May 2024.

Founded some 80 years ago in Nantes, the Floralies event is a wonderful 10-day flowery celebration of all things plant. Attracting 200,000 visitors, it grows in popularity each year. It is held every five years and will be setting its roots down in Vendée for the first time for this 13th edition, specifically in the beautiful Chabotterie manor house, whose exceptional gardens already attract many visitors.

Over the years, the event has evolved, from an exhibition of plants and garden reconstructions to a more artistic dimension. Today, it is a celebration of aesthetic and cultural research that places the garden as a space for art as well as culture. Designers and landscape architects work hand in hand to research and create the artistic garden of tomorrow.

A playful edition

Each edition plays with several popular and imaginative themes, allowing visitors to be transported into colourful and natural universes. Taking place from May 17-26, this year, the Floralies will be called “Flower Games”, a nod to the Olympic Games taking place in Paris this summer. Indeed, with ‘play’ in mind, the Floralies will be presenting five “games” throughout the exhibition – water games, childhood games, intellectual games, garden games and physical games.

Held in the Chabotterie domain, it will be an amazing chance to explore the French-style gardens rich divided into a medicinal herb garden, traditional vegetable patch and an ornamental garden containing more than 120 varieties. It is surrounded by a 48-hectare natural park in which the Floralies’ 200 exhibitting participants will unleash their creativity and demonstrate their unique talent.

The estate’s orchards will be dedicated to garden decoration and outdoor landscaping, and the latest trends in the sector will be on display here. The flower market, on the other hand, will be an opportunity to buy plants and discover new varieties, in a picturesque and friendly atmosphere.

To cap it all, the “Lyriade Florale” show, a spectacular and brand-new performance, lasting 1 hour and 40 minutes, will be performed every evening at 8.30pm and on the 26th May at 6.30pm.
