Titanic, the exhibition

Titanic, the exhibition

In April 1912, the RMS Titanic, the largest vessel of its time, would not complete its maiden voyage. The floating palace sank after hitting an iceberg. Paris pays tribute to the memory of the tragedy in an exhibition of real objects and real stories. The sobre hommage to the unsinkable legend brings together, a century later, more than 250 artifacts recovered from the sea bed, and eerie replicas of the cabins and public spaces. Delicate perfume bottles, a hat, an item of porcelain stamped with the logo of the White Star Line, bring back to life the human stories of the passengers and crew of the ill-fated liner.

The emotional tragedy that gripped the world’s attention resonates through the decades and has been immortalized in book and film many times over. Still, it holds a spellbinding appeal as visitors discover the tales of heroism, strength and endurance, and connect a face or a personal item to the story.  The exhibition is organized in a manner that highlights these invididual stories, through the items and atmosphere created by the careful recreation and the extraordinary effort in recovering and retrieving the items from the depths of the treacherous North Atlantic using cutting edge conservation techniques.

The show also covers the story of Titanic herself, from conception to construction and launch, and ceremonial launch, all the way to the shipwreck and rescue of the 700 survivors out of a total complement of over 2200 passengers and crew.

This would be such an interesting exhibition to see as I come from Belfast Northern Ireland and live close to were the Titanic was built. I have also see an exhibition in Cherbourg for the 100 years of the Titanic
