Key Words and Phrases to Celebrate Christmas in French

Celebrate the end-of-year holidays like a true Francophile! From toasting “Joyeux Noël” to wishing “Bonne Année,” discover key French words and phrases to enhance your festive cheer, impress your friends, and add a touch of ‘français’ to your celebrations. 

  • Joyeux Noël – Merry Christmas 
  • Bon Noël (less used) – Merry Christmas 
  • Bonnes Fêtes – Happy festivities. This encompasses the whole period stretching from Christmas to New Year’s Eve and is your go-to wish with shopkeepers and people you don’t know so well. 
  • Bon Réveillon – can be applied to the Christmas Eve celebrations or New Year’s Eve. 
  • Meilleurs Voeux – Best Wishes 
  • Bonne Année – Happy New Year! This can be followed by a ‘Bonne Santé’ wishing the other person good health for the new year. 
  • Santé! – Cheers, perfect when lifting your glass of champagne at mignight on December 31st.
