Why not Study at the Sorbonne this Winter?

For the first time, the Sorbonne, in Paris, will be hosting a winter session for its cultural and academic exchange program, traditionally held every summer.

The Faculty of Arts & Humanities at Sorbonne University is renowned as a centre for education and research in the fields of arts, languages, humanities and social sciences. Tracing its origins back to 1257 and the college founded by Robert de Sorbon, the Faculty now spans 13 campuses across the heart of Paris, including the historic site of the Sorbonne.

Traditionally, each summer, the Faculty of Arts & Humanities welcomes a global audience for two weeks of cultural immersion and academic exchange. This year, for the first time, a winter session will be held, offering an extraordinary chance for participants to experience French culture at its finest.

From January 13 to 24, 2025, the Winter University at the Sorbonne will offer multidisciplinary, non-degree courses in both French and English, alongside two levels of French language instruction: beginner (A1) and advanced (C1). Highlights of the programme include The French Revolutions, Paris and its Monuments, and a series devoted to French Literary Classics. These classes, led by teacher-researchers from the Sorbonne community, are all held in the historic lecture halls of Paris’ legendary Latin Quarter.

It’s a chance to learn within the university’s famed buildings

This programme is designed with students in mind, but it’s open to anyone eager to experience the French capital from a fresh perspective and who wishes to study within the distinguished walls of one of Europe’s most prestigious universities.

Those interested in expanding their knowledge of French history, literature, general culture or philosophy can attend multidisciplinary courses running from Monday to Friday – and, with each session spanning three hours, there will be ample time for exploring Paris too. For language learners, fully immersive classes are held for four to six hours daily over two weeks, tailored to the participants’ language level.

Upon completion of the course, each participant is awarded a certificate acknowledging their attendance at the Winter University at the Sorbonne. At the closing ceremony, which includes a cocktail reception, participants, teachers, and professors celebrate the end of the programme.

The Winter University’s mission is trifold. First, it is passionate about deepening the understanding of France’s history and culture; it is committed to fostering meaningful connections across diverse backgrounds; and it wishes to share the expertise of the Sorbonne’s scholars. It offers perfect opportunity to forge a better future in an historic setting.
