Join the Celebration: 30 Years of Organic Wine in Les Baux de Provence

Raise your glass in Provence as AOP Baux de Provence marks 30 years of crafting exceptional organic wines with a party in a stunning location set in a former quarry.

This year marks a milestone anniversary for AOP Baux de Provence — 30 years dedicated to crafting exceptional organic wines that capture the essence of Provence’s unique terroir. Since its inception, the appellation has championed 100% organic farming, producing wines that embody purity, complexity, and respect for the environment across its 243 hectares of vineyards.

The appellation is supported by 12 wineries, each contributing to the rich tapestry of Baux de Provence’s winemaking heritage. Together, they produce between 4,200 to 4,400 hectolitres of wine annually, with a portfolio of 52% red, 36% rosé, and 12% white wines. These wines come from eight localities: Baux-de-Provence, Eygalières, Fontvieille, Mouriès, Maussane-les-Alpilles, Paradou, Saint-Étienne du Grès, and Saint-Rémy de Provence.

Nestled within this appellation is Les Baux-de-Provence, one of France’s most beautiful villages. Set in a majestic setting at the heart of a region that has preserved its authenticity, Les Baux-de-Provence inspires artists who have captured its beautiful landscape and Michelin-starred chefs who draw creativity from its surroundings.

Since 2013, Caroline Missoffe, co-owner of Mas de la Dame, has served as president of the AOP Baux-de-Provence syndicate. Recently, she officially passed the presidency to Olivier Rolland, winemaker at Mas Sainte Berthe. Deeply involved in the syndicate since taking over his family estate in 2020 and treasurer for three years, Rolland aims to continue promoting and enhancing the AOP, the first appellation in Provence to be 100% organic. He will be supported by Théo Buravand, who takes over as treasurer, and Ève Cartier, secretary.

Rolland’s main mission during his mandate is to “make our expertise known,” with a particular focus on increasing the appellation’s presence at Wine Paris next year.

To celebrate this special anniversary, the winemakers of AOP Baux de Provence invite wine lovers and the public to a grand celebration on September 20 at the stunning Carrières de Sarragan, an open-air venue that beautifully reflects the spirit of Provence. The day will feature tastings, vineyard tours, and immersive workshops that highlight the passion and craftsmanship behind these award-winning organic wines. Entry is €7.

Visitors will have the rare opportunity to sample wines from 12 distinguished domaines, including:

  1. Domaine Dalmeran
  2. Domaine de Metifiot
  3. Château Romanin
  4. Domaine des Terres Blanches

In addition to the wines, there is no shortage of gourmet food venues, as Les Baux-de-Provence and its surrounding area boasts a richly woven fabric of top-quality restaurants whose wine lists proudly feature AOP Baux-de-Provence wines, creating perfect pairings for every palate.

This event follows in the footsteps of the beloved Les Baux Winegrowers’ Rally, held annually on the third weekend of September, where tourists can explore five itineraries across the wine region alongside visits to the region’s renowned olive oil mills. This united front of wine and olive oil, both carrying the AOP Baux-de-Provence label, strengthens the appellation’s identity and appeal, attracting visitors from near and far in a fun, educational manner.

The 30th anniversary celebration at the Carrières de Sarragan promises to be a memorable tribute to three decades of organic excellence, heritage, and sustainable winemaking. Whether you’re a seasoned oenophile or new to the world of wine, this event offers a unique chance to toast nature, culture, and the art of organic viticulture in one of France’s most enchanting regions.
