2025 is the Year of Cézanne

The artist’s home town celebrates his legacy with a 12-month programme of special events.

Aix-en-Provence, the birthplace and longtime home of Post-Impressionist painter Paul Cézanne, is hosting a year-long series of events in honour of the artist’s legacy. The centrepiece of the celebrations is the international exhibition ‘Cézanne au Jas de Bouffan’ at the Musée Granet, which will run from June 28 to October 12.

As part of the festivities, several key Cézanne-related sites in Aix-en-Provence have undergone extensive renovations. The Atelier des Lauves, Cézanne’s last studio, where he worked each morning until his death in 1906, will reopen its doors after a thorough restoration, while the Jas de Bouffan, the family home, will be accessible to visitors with new facilities and a redesigned park. After years of preparation, these celebrations encompass a wide range of cultural events with creations inspired by Cézanne’s work.

Visitors can expect monumental projections, live shows and artistic performances throughout Aix-en-Provence and its surroundings. A cultural trail will connect the major artistic sites to explore the places that influenced Cézanne’s life and art, providing a deeper understanding of the work and legacy of the man both Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso called “a father of us all”. The programme also includes smaller exhibitions that offer different perspectives on the artist’s career.

Cézanne 2025 is an unmissable chance to explore Aix-en-Provence as it shines a spotlight on its most famous son. Visit the website containing the full event schedule as local institutions throughout Provence are pulling out all the stops to bring you a whole host of unforgettable experiences.
