On Ecoute…Julien Doré
One of France’s best-loved singers has a new LP.
Golden (doré) by name, golden by nature… it is pushing 20 years since the singer Julien became part of the French pop landscape, and his reputation and popularity have not once waned during that time.
He first came to prominence when his unusual – at the time, and especially to French ears at least – choice of cover versions to perform during hit TV singing talent show Nouvelle Star (New Star) in 2007, saw him progress to the final, which he won. He covered songs such as Like a Virgin, Hit Me Baby (One More Time) and Heartbreak Hotel, and this penchant for reworking classic pop hits continues to this day.
His sixth album, Imposteur – which came out late last year – features more left-field picks such as an affecting, stripped back take on Hardy’s Tous les garçons et les filles and Fly Me To The Moon. Born in Alès, (Gard department) and now aged 42, Doré has an easy charm and warmth that lend themselves perfectly to being a coach on the kids’ singing show The Voice Kids, and he even included the beloved nursery rhyme Ah! Les crocodiles on Imposteur (hence the promo photo, above). Catch Julien Doré on tour throughout France during 2025.
