The American Friends Musée d’Orsay Hosts Free Workshops for Kids

Bilingual children have the chance to enjoy the Musée d’Orsay with a series of free creative workshops thanks to the AFMO’s ‘Holidays at the Orsay’ program.

This year, the American Friends Musée D’Orsay (AFMO) year-end appeal campaign is supporting an expanded bilingual childrens’ program designed to nurture art appreciation among the museum’s youngest visitors. Focusing on budding young artists and art amateurs, the program will take place during school holidays from Fall 2024 to Summer 2025.

Established in 2022, the “Holidays at the Orsay” workshop has been hosted in the Salle des Fêtes, the beautiful former ballroom of the Orsay Museum. The program offers a range of creative and hands-on experiences inspired by the museum and its collections. Aiming to enhance discovery and understanding of the Orsay Museum’s collection, the objective is to nurture childrens’ innate curiosity for art, and to bolster a continual dialogue between these young art lovers and their families. All activities are free of charge and accessible to children aged 2 and over. Special care is offered to children with disabilities and health issues.

Each holiday, the workshops present broad-ranging themes such as nature, in all its glory. Children can participate in a range of activities, from drawing and sculpture to gallery tours, reenactments and free play, in the hopes of fostering a growing appetite for art.

Since 2009, AFMO has been dedicated to raising public awareness and financial support for the Musée d’Orsay and the Musée de l’Orangerie, championing French culture, and strengthening ties between France and the United States. In keeping with this mission statement, education and family engagement are core elements of both the Orsay and Orangerie. Expanding the “Holidays at the Orsay” program by welcoming up to 30,000 young guests, and including activities in both French and English, meets the inspirational goals of both AFMO’s patrons and members.
