When Jackson Met Pablo: the Latest Exhibition at the Musée Picasso
The Musée National Picasso-Paris hosts a groundbreaking exhibition focusing on the formative years of Jackson Pollock’s career. It explores the diverse influences that shaped his early creative development, from regionalism and Mexican muralists to Native American art and European avant-garde movements. By examining this lesser-known period of his career, the exhibition seeks to provide a more nuanced understanding of the journey towards his iconic drip paintings. A significant portion of the exhibition is dedicated to examining Picasso’s impact after Pollock’s encounter with Guernica and the 1939 MOMA Picasso retrospective, which proved transformative. Bringing together 100 works, this is a rare glimpse into Pollock’s complex artistic and intellectual journey.
