Learn French at the Sorbonne Summer University 2018

Welcome to the Sorbonne!

Our summer programme is intended for students and anyone wanting to come and experience French culture and education in one of the most prestigious universities in Europe. It is a chance to get to discover French culture by meeting our scientific community together with other students from all around the world. In fact, many different nationalities took part to our summer programme in 2017.

Paris-Sorbonne University offers a wide range of courses of French as a Foreign Language with 6 levels: A1.1, A1.2, A2, B1, B2 and C1 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). Each course lasts 2 weeks. It is possible to follow 2 levels over 4 weeks.

A1 level to B1:

40 hours of General French courses which will work on different language skills: listening and speaking, written and oral comprehension and expression. The course’s topics and material will enable participants to familiarize themselves with different aspects of French culture, including French lifestyle, France’s educational and academic system, as well as the history of the Latin Quarter.

B2 and C1:

This programme lasts 60 hours and is organized as follows: A course in General French will work on different language skills: listening and speaking, written and oral comprehension and expression. The course’s topics and material will enable participants to familiarize themselves with different aspects of French culture, including French lifestyle, France’s educational and academic system as well as the history of the Latin Quarter.

Culture and civilisation courses

Consisting of ten one-hour sessions, referring to French culture and civilisation. The main trends in critical thinking and French artistic movements from the Renaissance to the present days will also be presented. Various types of media – literary, musical, pictorial, cinematographic or architectural will be used.

Enrolment requirements: Unless you are a beginner, testing is compulsory if you cannot provide official proof of your level in French.

Our Summer programme offers also multidisciplinary courses, in French and in English, taught by academics from the Sorbonne Universities cluster. For most of them, there are 15 hours of lectures per week, 3 hours a day, Monday to Friday, in the morning or afternoon depending on the course. This pace allows participants to enjoy the classes and also visit Paris afterwards. You can register for more than one course.

For those students wishing to take part, we offer a programme of cultural activities in addition to the curriculum. The weekly programme may be different from one week to another. This includes: a guided tour of a museum,an evening at the theatre or a jazz concert, a concert at the Sorbonne, a wine and cheese tasting workshop, an unique guided tour of Paris…

In addition, several conferences are given in the historic buildings of the Sorbonne. They are open to a wider public and take place in the early evening. Anyone following the summer programme has free access to these conferences.

As regards accommodation, the Sorbonne Summer University offers a limited number of individual rooms in a hall of residence located near the Sorbonne in the Latin Quarter. The hall of residence is situated opposite Luxembourg Gardens, 5 minutes’ walk from the Sorbonne.

En particulier, j'aimerais savoir le prix du programme, les dates pour les cours de culture et civilisation, et ce qu'on peut faire pour la nourriture pendant le séjoir en France.
