Chef and owner Bessem Ben Abdallah used to work at a Courchevel restaurant where he gained two Michelin stars. Having set up his own place here, in Mandlieu-La-Napoule, just west of Cannes, he already has one Michelin star and plenty of great ideas. Le Club 55

GETTING THERE

BY AIR

Various airlines fly to Nice from London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Manchester, Bristol and Edinburgh.

BY TRAIN

The TGV from Paris to Nice takes less than six hours but, for a more leisurely trip, there’s a night train that leaves Paris-Austerlitz in the evening and heads straight to the Côte d’Azur, passing through Marseille. Toulon, Les Arcs-Draguignan, Saint-Raphaël, Cannes and Antibes before terminating in Nice the following morning. (www.lunatrain.com)

BY CAR

Autoroutes link Nice with Toulon, Marseille and Aix-en-Provence in the west, and with Monaco and Italy in the east
