Grand Musée du Parfum Opens in Paris

The Grand Musée du Parfum opens its doors in Paris in a majestic converted mansion at 73 Rue de Faubourg Saint Honoré (where else?) in the heart of Paris’s Golden Triangle. The museum, entirely dedicated to perfume in all its historical, artistic, emotional, and cultural dimensions, offers a multi-sensory experience, plus events, exhibitions and conferences.

Set in the luxurious 8th arrondissement across from Le Bristol, the 1400m2 exhibit brings us closer to the sensory and scientific alchemy of perfume. How are smells and emotions connected? How do professional ‘noses’ (as master perfumers are known) create their signature scents?

Approximately 400 new fragrances are created each year. According to Les Echos, France is a leader in the fragrance and cosmetics industry with a 25% share of the market representing revenues of around 25 billion euros. Drawing from France’s prominent knowledge base as top cognoscenti of everything fragrant, the Grand Musée de Parfum leads visitors deep into the secrets of perfume making thanks to an immersive experience conceived by designers and artists, to trace its history back to the Pharaohs and learn to identify over 70 different foundational olfactory notes.

There’s even a section of the exhibit devoted to seductresses who knew preciseily how to use the powers of the sense to their advantage, such as Cleopatra or Catherine de Médicis, and of course, a boutique where you can find the perfume that perfectly says… c’est moi!
